Shifting My Mindset: Choosing Gratitude Over Complaints

Lately, I’ve been paying more attention to the way I start my mornings. In the past, I would often wake up saying things like, “I’m so tired,” or “I don’t feel like going to work today.” Without even realizing it, I was setting the tone for my entire day with negative energy.

This week, I decided to shift my mindset. Instead of starting with complaints, I began my mornings with gratitude. Now I say things like:

  • “I’m grateful I have a job to go to.”

  • “I’m grateful I have a skill and a talent to use.”

  • “I’m grateful that I am needed.”

These simple changes may not seem big, but they really do make a difference. When I focus on what I do have instead of what I wish were different, I carry more peace and positivity into the day.

To help me stay consistent, I’ve also been using a self-care book by Clever Fox. It’s a guided journal that makes it easier to keep track of my gratitude, daily reflections, and self-care goals. Writing things down helps me stay accountable and makes my gratitude practice feel more intentional.

It doesn’t mean everything is suddenly perfect—life is still busy and sometimes stressful—but I feel more grounded when I remember the blessings I already have.

If you’ve been feeling drained, I encourage you to try your own “gratitude swap.” The next time you catch yourself about to say “I’m tired,” instead say, “I’m grateful I made it to today.”

Little by little, those shifts can transform not just your mornings, but your whole perspective.

Want to start your own gratitude journey? The Clever Fox Self-Care Journal is the one I use to keep my gratitude practice on track. It’s simple, motivating, and a great reminder to slow down and focus on the positives each day.

What’s one thing you’re grateful for today?
